This is a temporary full-time position working 35 hours per week from June 2017 to June 2018.

Preferred Background:
The successful candidate must possess an under-graduate degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism or a related field. In addition the individual will require knowledge of leading practices in internal and external communications and media relations. The candidate must be capable of planning and implementing work in an organized manner under tight deadlines while working collaboratively with others.


The candidate is expected to:

·         Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communications skills

·         Exhibit an understanding of government, exercise political acuity and portray a professional demeanor in attitude and appearance

·         Possess superior time management and organizational skills and ability to manage work flow to complete high-quality work on time; experience in managing small projects and utilizing project management skills an asset.

·         Demonstrate experience writing for various audiences using clear and concise messages as well as accessible / plain language

·         Exhibit a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office product and social media platforms

·         Be self-motivated and capable of working effectively both independently and as part of a team

·         Behave in a manner that contributes to healthy and safe work environment, and positive workplace culture


To be eligible to apply for an intern position, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • In possession of a Social Insurance Number at time of hire.
  • You have graduated or will graduate with a recognized post-secondary degree, post-graduate certificate or diploma between January 2016 and June 2017.


·         Support in the development and implementation of communications campaigns and work plans.

·         Coordinate planning meetings, develop supporting notes and materials and assist in the development and implementation of Halton’s strategic communications plans across the organization.

·         Assist in the development and implementation of an internal communications plan.

·         Assist in the development of a media relations strategy.

·         Assist in updating communications processes, policies, and procedures

·         Perform other duties as assigned.
