This is a permanent full-time position working 35 hours per week.



Reporting to the Manager, Payroll Services this role provides payroll and pension administrative services for employees including: tracking and analyzing pension contributions, reporting breaks of service and the adjustment to pensionable earnings; calculating pension adjustments for T4 tax forms, and year-end OMERS submission and reconciliation. This position is also responsible for the accounting functions related to SAP payroll, posting payroll results to SAP FICO, preparing third party payroll remittances, journal entries and reconciliations.


Preferred Background:
The ideal candidate will possess a diploma in Business Administration or Accounting and a minimum of three (3) years of related work experience in a high volume, fast paced payroll department, preferably with a medium to large public sector organization. The completion of PCP certificate is preferred. Knowledge of tax legislation, payroll and pension procedures and processes along with demonstrated organizational, analytical and problem solving skills, including excellent attention to detail is required.  Highly effective customer service and collaborative skills, including the ability to work successfully both independently and in a team environment is essential.  The candidate must be able to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment, ensuring work is accurate and deadlines are achieved.  This role requires reconciliation, payroll, pension and accounting experience, strong computer skills, specifically proficiency in Excel with demonstrated ability to compare, analyze and manipulate data within spreadsheets (i.e. lookups, pivot tables, etc.).  Experience with SAP HR and Payroll is considered an asset.  An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.



  • Maintain confidential records and correspondence to ensure OMERS participant database is up-to-date and accurate.
  • Respond to pension and accounting enquiries related to payroll.
  • Calculate, updates and audits pension employee contributions, credited service and pensionable earnings in accordance with OMERS plan.
  • Review payroll and pension records for accuracy and completeness.
  • Process pension termination, retirement, death claims, maternity leave purchases and enrollments
  • Analyze, prepare & submit pension summaries at year end.
  • Balance and remit pension contributions.
  • Prepare journal entries in SAP software.
  • Prepare third party payroll remittances including Revenue Canada Taxation & EHT payments.
  • Post payroll results in SAP FICO.
  • Reconcile payroll & pension accounts on a monthly and annual basis.
  • Maintain Payroll and Pension audit documentation and business process/standard operating procedures.
  • Identify business process improvement opportunities, leveraging technology and other automated solutions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
