This is a temporary full-time position working 35 hours per week from June 2017 to June 2018.

Preferred Background:
The successful candidate must possess an under-graduate degree in Civil Engineering Technology or Technician, Architectural Technology, Project Management or similar. A technical aptitude with good written and verbal skills and an interest in gaining practical experience in the Facilities Project and Construction Management fields is required. Knowledge of construction practices, terminology, the tendering process and contract administration is required. Experience with CAD drafting, Microsoft computer applications and preparation of construction specifications is highly desirable. Proven work ethic and ability to work in a fast paced, team environment with the desire to provide excellent customer service is required. The candidate must be able to work autonomously or as member of a team with the capability to manage multiple priorities across a number of assignments and prioritize effectively.  Having the ability to resolve any minor conflicts/issues and escalate to others as appropriate is required.

 

The candidate is expected to:

  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills
  • Possess superior time management skills and able to manage work flow in order to complete work on time and as expected
  • Exhibit a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office products is needed and Computer Aided Design (CAD) systems  is desired
  • Possess a valid Ontario Driver's License and have an excellent driving record
  • Meet the physical requirements of the job
  • Use deductive and analytical reasoning skills to identify potential and existing problems
  • Be self-motivated capable of working in a team environment and independently
  • Behave in a manner that contributes to a healthy and safe work environment, and positive workplace culture

Working Conditions: 

Travel will be required; incumbent must provide their own transportation. The incumbent will be required to provide a copy of their driver’s license by their first day of employment.  The incumbent must be able to perform all the necessary physical tasks associated with the position and be able to lift heavy objects.

 

To be eligible to apply for an intern position, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • In possession of a Social Insurance Number at time of hire.
  • You have graduated or will graduate with a recognized post-secondary degree, post-graduate certificate or diploma between January 2016 and June 2017.

Duties:

·         Provide general assistance in the Asset Management Division in areas of project planning and the development and implementation of projects in the Facilities Design & Development section.

·         Support Project Managers in the delivery of Capital Projects

·         Perform Project Management duties as required.

·         Carry out investigations, audits and gather and report data to support Accommodation program requirements

·         Assist in the preparation of simple preliminary designs, drawings, and specifications for minor capital or maintenance projects.  Utilize computer assisted drafting (CAD) in preparing drawings.

·         Provide liaison between clients, contractors, and other Regional staff as required.

·         Conduct site visits with contractors and obtain quotations.

·         Prepare and compile simple specifications for review by the Supervisor.

·         Assist with follow-up inspections and contractor supervision and prepare project reports as required.

·         Utilize Asset Management design and project methodology to effectively manage projects on behalf of client groups and the organization.

·         Works to provide excellent customer service to client groups

·         Ability to use deductive and analytical reasoning skills

·         Ability to identify potential and existing problems

·         Perform other duties as assigned.
