This is a temporary full-time position working 35 hours per week from June 2017 to June 2018.

Preferred Background:
The successful candidate must possess an under-graduate degree in Business/Commerce or a related degree in Economic Development.  Knowledge of economic development program development and evaluation, event management, as well as strong customer service and relationship-building skills are required.  Experience in processing, analyzing and interpreting data is strongly preferred. Experience with
stakeholder consultations and community engagement processes would be an asset.


The candidate is expected to:

  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills; both written and verbal
  • Possess superior time management skills and able to manage work flow in order to complete work on time and as expected
  • Exhibit a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
  • Be self-motivated capable of working in a team environment and independently
  • Behave in a manner that contributes to a healthy and safe work environment, and positive workplace culture

To be eligible to apply for an intern position, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • In possession of a Social Insurance Number at time of hire.
  • You have graduated or will graduate with a recognized post-secondary degree, post-graduate certificate or diploma between January 2016 and June 2017.


·         Support the Manager, Economic Development to manage the export stream of the Starter Company Plus program which will provide mentorship and programs to start-up exporters.  This will include promotion of this stream and intake management via our customer relationship management system.                                                                      

·         Analyze and interpret data to develop a profile of Halton's exporting community using the Halton Employment Survey and develop a baseline in which to measure export propensity in Halton and efficacy of the Region's programming.

·         Undertake research and related tasks in support of new export program development

·         Contribute content for the Halton Business Blog and social media channels

·         Assist in program development, marketing and coordination of export events undertaken with partner organizations

·         Assist in the development and tracking of performance measures for the Region's export programming.

·         Manage the Region's "pipeline" of active and potential export programming participants, working in partnership with the small business centre and local municipal partners.  Management of this group will include use of the division's CRM system and potentially channels such as LinkedIn. 

·         Assist in the launch of the Global Business Centre in November 2017, including promotion, event planning and execution.

·         Research, analyze and interpret data in support of other economic development initiatives; including the online data centre

·         Perform other duties as assigned.
