This is a temporary full-time position working 35 hours per week from June 2017 to June 2018.

Preferred Background:
The successful candidate must possess an under-graduate degree or college diploma in Environmental Management, Quality Control, Occupational Health & Safety, Civil Engineering or a related field.  Knowledge of quality or environmental management systems and internal auditing practices is required. Knowledge of Public Works Department services (e.g. water treatment/distribution, wastewater treatment/collection, waste management, transportation, engineering and construction) would also be an asset.  The candidate must be capable of planning and implementing work in an organized manner, and working collaboratively with others.

 

The candidate is expected to:

  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Possess strong inter-personal skills and resolve problems effectively
  • Possess superior time management skills and able to manage work flow in order to complete work on time and as expected
  • Exhibit a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, SharePoint or similar
  • Be self-motivated capable of working in a team environment and independently
  • Behave in a manner that contributes to a healthy and safe work environment, and positive workplace culture

 

Working Conditions: 

Travel may be required; incumbent must provide their own transportation. The incumbent will be required to provide a copy of their driver’s license by their first day of employment.

 

To be eligible to apply for an intern position, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • In possession of a Social Insurance Number at time of hire.
  • You have graduated or will graduate with a recognized post-secondary degree, post-graduate certificate or diploma between January 2016 and June 2017.
Duties:
  • Provide technical and administrative support for the Drinking Water Quality Management System (DWQMS), Integrated Management System (IMS) and departmental compliance programs.
  • Research and summarize best practices used in the implementation of quality or environmental management systems as applicable to Public Works (e.g. DWQMS, IMS).
  • Assist with the development of process maps, procedures and work instructions.
  •  Review documents and recommend updates and improvements.
  • Assist in the collection of information and preparation of material for project team meetings.
  • Participate in internal audits of departmental management systems.
  • Support field staff in the use of IMS software tools and databases, and assist with the roll out and training for document management and/or management system software.
  • Assist in managing training records, compiling data and uploading data into a learning management system.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
