This is a temporary/contract position up to twelve (12) months, working 35 hours per week.


Over the next 10 years the Region will be investing $2.9 Billion into water, wastewater and transportation infrastructure. We are looking for dedicated, forward thinking and enthusiastic individuals to be part of the team that delivers and manages an infrastructure asset inventory of over $8.4 billion.  Our commitment is to deliver high quality infrastructure for the residents, businesses and visitors to Halton Region.


Preferred Background: 

The successful candidate will possess a diploma in Civil Engineering or Applied Sciences and a Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) registration with the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technologists and Technicians (OACETT) or a degree in Engineering.  Candidates must possess sound knowledge and a minimum of five to seven (5-7) years of experience in the design and construction of water and wastewater treatment facilities including SCADA and contract administration. Working knowledge of provincial and municipal legislation, approvals, policies and practices and contract laws related to water and wastewater design and construction is required. Strong project management, planning and organization, stakeholder management, negotiation, analytical and problem solving skills are required; Project Management Certification (PMP) would be a definite asset. 


The Region is looking to hire individuals with demonstrated experience delivering complex and innovative projects on schedule and on budget. A thorough understanding of water and wastewater treatment legislation and guidelines related to planning, design, construction, contract administration and operations of municipal infrastructure and the environment, and relevant regulations enforced by federal and provincial approval agencies including the Occupational Health and Safety Act is required.   Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills including working with and leading diverse project teams are essential.  An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.  


Working Conditions:

Travel is required between locations within Halton Region; the incumbent must provide their own transportation.



·         Implements and provides project management on water and wastewater treatment capital projects from preliminary design through commissioning under the Supervision of the Senior Project Advisor, Plant Capital and Engineering.

·         Delivers Capital Projects for the Allocation Program and associated reporting requirements.

·         Prepares and presents internal reports and Public Works Committee Reports on projects.

·         Prepares Terms of Reference and evaluates proposals for engaging consultants in engineering projects.  Arranges and administers consultant agreements and provides all necessary directions and supervision to ensure compliance with Halton requirements.

·         Ensures projects are designed and constructed according to engineering best practices and Health and Safety Regulations for non-development and development projects.

·         Exercises effective cost and schedule controls of projects.

·         Liaises with Municipal, Provincial and Federal Agencies to obtain all necessary approvals and permits for the implementation of projects.

·         Negotiates and resolves claims and disputes from contractors and other outside service providers.

·         Provides engineering support to Wastewater Treatment and Distribution.

·         Participates in and inputs to engineering studies leading to the preparations for and initiation of design and construction projects.

·         Communicates project requirements and information to the public and elected officials through correspondence, Public Information Centres and Staff Reports.

·         Advises design and construction teams, other sections and divisions on solutions to engineering problems.

·         Researches into and makes recommendations to adapt new technologies, techniques and materials in the design and construction of water and wastewater infrastructure.

·         Performs other duties as assigned.
