This is a permanent full time position working 40 hours per week.



Reporting to the Manager of Treatment Plant Maintenance, this position is responsible for providing leadership by ensuring maintenance work is planned to the highest practicable level of quality and safety in the treatment plants throughout the Region.  Facilitates strategic planning with direct reports in support of department targets. Aligns financial processes with purchasing by-law and optimizes spend to reduce the lifecycle costs of physical assets.

This position is responsible for managing team competencies and training plans in support of equipment reliability and strategy planning. Makes the maintenance department a great place to work by creating an environment that promotes mutual respect and team work through daily management systems and regular communication events.


Preferred Background:
The successful candidate will possess a degree or diploma in Engineering, Asset Management, Reliability or a Maintenance Management related discipline with a minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience supervising a large planning, scheduling and reliability group. Knowledge and application of In-depth understanding of reliability centered maintenance,
Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change (MOECC) licensing regulations, as well as the ability to efficiently analyze, monitor, and assess asset performance is key.  The incumbent must have knowledge of and experience adhering to MOECC regulations, legislation, guidelines and the Occupational Health and Safety Act. Demonstrated experience developing strategic solutions and an ability to support a team towards achieving their goals through training, coaching and support is required. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, SAP, and work order management systems is essential. Excellent collaboration, team building, organizational, leadership and critical thinking skills are required. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively and demonstrate professionalism, tact and political acuity when interacting with stakeholders.


Working Conditions:

The successful candidate will be made an offer of employment on condition that the Regional Municipality of Halton receives a current (obtained within the past six (6) months), original and acceptable Criminal Records Check, by the first day of employment. Travel will be required; incumbent must provide their own transportation. The incumbent will be required to provide a copy of their driver’s license by their first day of employment. Incumbent will be required to serve on standby and respond to after hour callouts and provide leadership in emergencies and in adverse conditions, as specified by Public Work Practices.



  • Responsible for the development of detailed maintenance plans and schedules and standard work documents.
  • Coordinating the delivery of optimum Maintenance to reduce life cycle costs while ensuring compliance with all standards, regulations and legislation to facilitate the treatment of water and wastewater 24/7. 
  • Accountable for the Maintenance stores inventory, inventory control, min/max/reorder levels and direct purchases.
  • Effective cost control of the Maintenance Planning Budgets to ensure compliance within financial plan.
  • Responsible for the development of technical (maintenance) service contracts which involves tendering and the issuance of Technical Purchase Orders and Agreements, and the verification of work completed by contractors on behalf of the Region.

·         Ensuring predictive and preventative maintenance and other proactive job types are planned and scheduled to ensure assets are maintained in a state-of-good-repair and prioritized requests are responded to in a timely manner. 

·         The utilization and development of SAP master data to align work flows with all other business units such as Finance, Human Resources, and Purchasing, in support of the Reliability centered maintenance strategy and purchasing By-law.

  • Analyze work order data to inform SAP maintenance plans via Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) process and coordinate with maintenance steering committee as part of the change management process..
  • Responsible for review and implementation of a continuous improvement process to ensure service meets or exceeds the standards established by the regulatory and legislative government bodies and/or regulations such as the MOECC, Drinking Water Quality Management System (DWQMS),and Safe Drinking Water Act, Ministry of Labour ( MOL), Public Sector Accounting Board (PSAB), Tangible Capital Assets (TCA), Technical Standards & Safety Authority (TSSA), Canadian Standards Authority (CSA), Electrical Safety Authority( ESA), Ministry of Training, Colleges & Universities (MTCU).
  • Perform other duties as necessary.
