This position is being offered on a temporary full-time basis working 40 hours per week for three (3) months from date of hire.

 

Preferred Background:

The successful candidate must possess a secondary school diploma  Preference will be given to applicants with post-secondary education in a related environmental field.  Must possess and maintain Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MOECC) operator certification in Wastewater in accordance with the facility level.(operator IV is preferred),along with five (5) years of experience in wastewater collection system operation and system components. A thorough understanding of regulations enforced by the MOECC, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and other relevant environmental legislation related to wastewater collection is required along with the ability to coach operators, clearly deliver instructions, and provide appropriate feedback. A demonstrated aptitude for computers is required in order to effectively monitor and control processes using automatic controls and the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) System. The incumbent must be a co-operative team member who possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills.  Familiarity with the preparation/monitoring of budgets, and experience working within budgets is an asset.  Familiarity with CMMS systems and CCTV data management is also an asset.  An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. 

 

Working Conditions:

The successful candidate will be made an offer of employment on condition that the Regional Municipality of Halton receives a current (obtained within the past six (6) months), original and acceptable Criminal Records Check, by the first day of employment. The incumbent must possess and maintain a valid Class ‘DZ’ Ontario driver's license. Flexibility in working hours will be required to serve standby and respond to after hour callouts. Work in confined spaces as specified under the Public Works Operations Practice is required along with performing designated assigned duties in inclement weather.  

 

Duties:

·         Participates in the development of objectives, policies, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs); makes recommendations for changes and improvements to existing standards, policies and procedures; monitors work activities to ensure compliance.

·         Supervises construction and repair activities throughout the collection system.

·         Responsible for managing wastewater collection (including pumping and wastewater storage) in coordination with wastewater treatment operations.

·         Responsible for incident reporting, as required.

·         Provides direction and assistance to collection system staff in the daily operation of collection facilities and network.

·         Acts as operator in charge when required.

·         Assists with the planning, assigning and directing of work to its final completion.

·         Assists maintenance staff in implementation of their preventative maintenance, scheduled and unscheduled work programs.

·         Oversees wastewater sample collection; verifies samples are current; accompanies regulatory agencies on field inspections.

·         Ensures that all Occupational Health and Safety practices and procedures as well as internal protocols and Environmental compliance requirements are followed and arrange monthly safety meetings with staff.

·         Instruct staff on Region standards, policies and procedures and appropriate responses to emergencies.

·         Assists in the preparation of time sheets, vacation schedules, shift scheduling and budgets.

·         Compiles and maintains necessary wastewater collection system records and analyses.

·         Provides or coordinates staff training.

·         Submits required reports to regulatory bodies; monitors wastewater quality.

·         Performs operator and other duties as assigned.
