Toronto Global bid shortlisted for second North American Amazon headquarters

Release Date: Jan 19, 2018

On January 18, Amazon announced that the Toronto Region has been shortlisted for the company’s second North American headquarters and is the only Canadian region to make the list. In partnership with Toronto Global and the municipalities of Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Durham Region and York Region, Halton Region submitted a joint bid for the project in October 2017.

“Halton is one of the best places to live and work in Canada. With prime employment land development opportunities, a highly skilled workforce, proximity to major markets, transit and leading educational institutions, Halton offers the space, talent, diversity, connectivity and business climate Amazon is looking for,” said Halton Regional Chair, Gary Carr. “As the fastest-growing region in the GTA, Halton is well positioned to accommodate the immediate and longer-term needs of a second Amazon headquarters.”

Amazon has contacted shortlisted candidates and Halton Region is pleased to work with Toronto Global, the Halton local municipalities and senior government partners to move onto the next stage of discussions with Amazon.
