Halton Region among first Canadian municipalities to launch enhanced community emergency notification service

Halton Region today rolled out an improved emergency notification service. The Region now has access to a more complete database that includes contact information for more than 95 per cent of Halton residents and businesses with traditional land line telephone service. In the event of an emergency, Halton’s enhanced Community Emergency Notification Service (CENS) will phone affected households throughout Halton to provide emergency information.

“At Halton Region, we take our emergency management responsibilities very seriously and are committed to working with our partners to ensure we are ready to respond to any emergency situation and able to reach as many people as possible,” said Regional Chair Gary Carr. “As one of the first Canadian municipalities to have access to this enhanced data for use in emergency situations, Halton Region continues to be a leader in delivering community emergency notification services.”

Access to this enhanced information not only provides Halton Region with the ability to reach more traditional land line telephones, but will allow the Region to pinpoint locations and accurately notify households impacted by an emergency event such as a flood, chemical spill or other emergency situation.
