Release Date: Mar 1, 10

Tickets are now available for the Halton Regional Chair's Breakfast on the Environment, to be held on Tuesday, April 20, 7:30 a.m. at the Burlington Convention Centre (view map External Link). Guest speaker Craig Kielburger, founder and chair of Free the Children, will be there to celebrate the winners of the Chair's Environmental Awards.

Sponsored by Bell and TD Friends of the Environment Foundation, The Regional Chair's Environmental Awards support Halton's youth in achieving environmental excellence in their schools, community and future academic studies.

“These awards foster an appreciation for the environment in Halton’s youth and raise awareness of local environmental initiatives,” said Halton Regional Chair, Gary Carr. “Preserving the environment is a priority for all of us and I’m thrilled to encourage our innovative young leaders to think green.”

Awards are given out in two categories: the Halton Youth Awards for Environmental Excellence and the Halton Youth Awards for Environmental Scholarship. The submission deadline for both categories is March 12, 2010. Complete award entry details, including application forms, can be found at www.halton.caaa.

Organizations and individuals are invited to show their support for the environmental efforts of Halton’s youth by sponsoring an award or purchasing a table. Further details on sponsorship opportunities are available at www.halton.ca.

“By participating in this breakfast, local companies will have the opportunity to be part of an important initiative,” said Chair Carr. “With these inspired young people taking a proactive lead in protecting and preserving our environment, we have an opportunity to gain insights from our Halton students.”
