DEPUTY CHIEF

Halton Region is situated on the northern shore of Lake Ontario and includes the City of Burlington, the Town of Halton Hills, the Town of Milton and the Town of Oakville. Our Region is recognized as one of the safest communities in Canada and people within Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) and the community take pride in the work and fine reputation enjoyed by their Service.

At the same time, changes are taking place within the Region, within the Service and to the Police Services Act. These changes together create an exciting environment full of challenge and opportunity for the right leader. To support the Chief in meeting the leadership needs of this changing and diverse community, the Halton Regional Police Services Board is seeking to appoint a Deputy Chief of Police due to a pending retirement.

In today's environment, the Deputies and all Senior Leaders must work closely with our uniform and civilian staff, our Police Services Board and our many stakeholders and citizens in our community as they deal with constantly changing work requirements and task complexity. We believe strongly in the need to create and maintain an inclusive environment built on trust and openness.

The Deputy Chief must be a role model for behaviour that is consistent with the principles and values of a professional, ethical and inclusive police service. Success will require that the Deputy has a thorough understanding of the HRPS - its culture, organizational structure, corporate strategy and key stakeholders. They must have the knowledge, skills, ability and confidence to be an effective, contributing member of the executive team and to provide visible leadership across the organization, enabling the Service to move forward with a clear sense of direction.

With a budget of over $150 million, the HRPS has an authorized strength of more than 1000 staff (sworn and civilian). In today's world, a Police Service such as Halton requires leaders with a reputation for bringing innovative solutions to the many challenges that face police organizations today. They must bring a blend of professional experience and exceptional personal qualities to the role. Qualified candidates will have a track record of success in a leadership role within a complex and demanding policing environment. Skills and experience should be balanced with a strong educational background.
